Darwinisms for June 2013
By Darwin Afdahl, District 17 President
The Longest Day, the inaugural partnership between the ACBL and the Alzheimer’s Association, is a sunrise-to-sunset relay event to raise funds for the care, support, and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. Held on June 21, 2013, the longest day of the year, this event challenges participants to push their limits and complete approximately 16 hours of a consecutive activity - such as playing bridge. It’s one day to honor the passion, dedication, and strength displayed by people with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers every day. Unfortunately, June 21 is during our regional in Las Vegas, Nevada. For more information and/or to donate to this worthy cause, go to http://ACBL.org and click on The Longest Day or go to: http://thelongestday.alz.org then click on “Donate” and search for a club or team in your area. District 17 is going to donate $500.00 to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Those of you planning to attend the D17 Taos, New Mexico, Regional in September, 2013, should make reservations, as I have been told that reservations at the hotels listed in the Taos flyer are becoming hard to find.
Thanks to Vicki Hanson who suggested the idea for the name of this column, and to all of the others who submitted suggestions, I appreciate your inputs.
